No medicine given

Slept in pat 9am the following morning

Kate Awake 3:30am

Kate is awake again tonight, unable to sleep through the night. Our assumption is that seizures are casing her to wake up now as they did prior to her 2015 hemispherotomy.

Kate woke us up after having a series of seizures that give her the sense of needing the vomit.

We gave her the rescue medicine to break the continued cycle of seizures.

Clonazipam.5mg
3:30am till 4:30

Kate: Seizure Patterns

Kate has been awake the last two nights with seizures and this morning they intensified in frequency and severity. When she is awake over night it is typically for several hours between 11pm and 5 pm. Last night she went back to sleep after receiving the Clonazipam to break the seizure cycle.

We clobbered her with the “rescue” medicine this morning again to break the recurring cycle.

She was so upset about missing school today, I promised her if she went one hour without any seizures I would bring her to school.

The rescue med is a heavy neuro sedative,

now she is a happy little “drunk” 4th grader

We were so lucky to see a friendly face first thing at Muldown Elementary and be greeted with some silliness to start the day. Thank you Christina, you are an all star.

Kate: 09/11/2014

Flushed at bedtime

  • Low level anxiety about thunderstorms
  • wanted to tell mom she may get up in the middle of the night
  • generally in good spirits, up and down before dinner
  • was being mean and screaming before I got home from work, made Isabelle terribly upset
  • barb feels like she is approaching a seizure in the next 36 hours… I hope she is wrong.

Day at the Circus

Busy day yesterday at work, conducted a dog a and pony show for an hour to an international audience. Covering the selection, evaluation process for a software platform we are recommending.

Kind of a grown up day for me.

Amtrak: the waiting game

Stopped, between Williston ND and Minot ND close to Berthold…we continue to wait. Train works fine, no conflicts with BNSF for track time. We are waiting on a replacement crew to be driven by car, out to the train from Minot.

An appropriate metaphor for the state of passenger rail in the US, with no outside impediments, amtrak is it’s own worst enemy. Creating delays through failed policy making.

Up to this moment, the Empire Builder had been moving along well. Due to a series of delays from freight traffic, the current crew reached their 12 hour work day limit 20 miles short of the destination. In a move unique to the rail road industry, they just stop the train and call for the new crew to be driven out to meet the now stopped train. Amazing.

The smokers on this train are the most considerable group, they have not had a chance to legally smoke for over three hours. I don’t know what it’s like to need a cigarette, but I have seen the results when folks are made to wait for one.

To hell with customers and the delivery of services paid in advance, Amtrak employees fail to plan for these inevitabilities. Loosing the priority to freight, means passenger rail stops and waits any time there is a shared interest in the same piece of track.

At this point of waiting, we could have walked the final miles to Minot faster.

The state of passenger rail travel in the United States has reached a new low.

Visit with the Tiny Giant

11:06pm Valium given 7.5 mg

Symptoms prior to giving the Valium:
Vomiting
Rhythmic eye movement
Complaining of a headache
Head deviating to the right
No rhythmic arm
No increased muscle tension in her right foot ( as seen previously)

(?)
Possible that we caught the seizure earlier or that this is a more mild version (?)

Prior to vomiting Kate woke, expressed extreme emotion towards Barb, very affectionate, kissing and repeatedly telling Barb that she loved her. Pulling her by the neck to hug her, a lot.
(?) Possibly as part an Aura (?)

11:36 PM Kate is sleeping, breathing as if in a deep sleep. Relaxed, the Valium appears to have worked as intended, knocking her flat.

Kate woke up at 1:26 AM
Crying uncomfortable
Complaining of a headache
Distraught, unable to sleep

1:40 AM abruptly fell back to sleep.
Sleep through until 7 AM.

In the morning she was back to her behavioral base line, happy, ready to start her day as if nothing had happened. One note, she did not have an appetite and she fell, tripped while walking, hit her head on the air filter on the way down. Do not know if the fall is a result of being tired or having diminished balance or coordination.

Barb canceled her client meetings to be with Kate all day today to watch and learn.

The onset and sequence of this seizure was unique, no build up, no retching prior to the symptoms that showed up at 11 PM.
